Neurodivergence
The basic understanding of neurodivergence refers to all people with brains that work differently than most – what society might deem as ‘normal’ – whether the condition is caused by genetics, birth, environmental factors, or traumatic experiences. Neurodiversity-affirming therapy recognizes and values the diverse ways in which brains function, particularly in individuals with conditions like autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, and more. This therapy focuses on exploring and working on reframing neurological differences rather than viewing them as deficits. It aims to create a therapeutic environment that respects and validates the experiences of neurodivergent individuals, increasing self-acceptance, empowerment, and well-being by building on their unique strengths and addressing specific needs.
